Christian Manalo
Head Coach Coach Manalo enters his 7th year of coaching boys' basketball and his 3rd season as a head coach. He began his coaching career at his alma mater of Diamond Bar High School as an Associate Head Coach. He later transitioned to Foothill High School as an assistant before his head coaching opportunity at Southlands Christian High School. Coach Manalo has experience in the CIF playoffs with multiple appearances and league titles as a coach. Coach Manalo is involved with the high school and AAU realms of basketball with various programs, while assisting with individual training, team practices, and camps. Additionally, he is a Physical Education teacher at Legacy Magnet Academy in Tustin and will be entering his 3rd year of teaching overall. Coach Manalo is not only excited to make an impact on the boys' basketball program, but also the community. He is looking forward to building strong relationships with those associated with Northwood High School to continue the long tradition of respect and dedication to the sport that the Timberwolves have exemplified. |
Daniel Smith
Assistant Varsity Coach Coach Daniel Smith enters his 13th year of coaching and 1st year with Northwood High School as a Varsity assistant coach. A husband, father of two to Ava and Audri, Coach Smith began his coaching career at Westminster HS, where he served as varsity assistant for 5 years. Coach Smith is a fundamentals coach who loves teaching the aspects of the game and takes pride in instilling values in his players. Coach Smith starred as a shooting guard at San Pedro High School and went on to attend CSU, Northridge. In the off-season, Coach Smith is the Director of local AAU basketball program, Gamepoint OC. The program is a fundamentally sound program which is geared towards helping players ages 14-17 work towards their dreams of playing at the collegiate level. When he is not coaching, he enjoys long distance bike riding. |
Mel Miranda
Assistant Varsity Coach Coach Miranda enters his 8th year of coaching and 3rd year at Northwood High School. Prior to Northwood, he spent 5 years at Irvine High School as a Freshmen, JV, and Varsity assistant coach. Coach Miranda brings a wealth of experience on and off of the court that is essential to a player’s development. Coach Miranda is married with two kids in college and is recently retired after 30 years in law enforcement. He spends most of his time coaching, working out, and seeking new beginnings like golf. |
Dion Bailey
JV Head Coach For over 10 years Dion has coached all levels of high school basketball. He is currently a personal trainer and basketball consultant serving the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County areas. He spent 3 years as an NAIA Assistant Basketball Coach at Bristol University in Anaheim. Dion began is post high school basketball career at Santa Rosa Junior College. After receiving a scholarship, he finished out his college career at Utah State University where he majored in sociology. During his time there he helped lead the team in winning conference titles in 2000 & 2001 and two NCAA Tournament appearances in the same year. His coaching philosophy is to provide a university setting by creating a successful partnership with athletes throughout the developmental process. The goal is focus on constructing an atmosphere that represents a positive, competitive, and consistent setting, while maintaining a continual balance of hard work and respect. |
